FACTS AND FIGURES
Tenerife is the largest of the Canary Islands, covering aproximately 2035 square kilometres (785 square miles). Its length is approximately 83 kilometres (51 miles) and the width is upto about 51 kilometres (31 miles). The coastline in the longest of the islands, at 342 kilometres (213 miles) and has approximately 67 kilometres (42 miles) of beach. The island is located approximately 300 kilometres (186 miles) from Morocco on the African continent.
It is the most populated island, with around 850,000 inhabitants. The capital is Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and is the second largest city in the Canaries after Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, boasting almost 250,000 inhabitants.
The highest point on the island, and indeed in Spain, is Mount Tiede at 3,718 metres (12,200 feet).
